A PIXEL is a picture element, the smallest unit (point) of an image displayed on screen. The quality of an image depends on the number of pixels per inch that make up the image.

One MEGAPIXEL is one million pixels. So, for instance, an image with 1600 x 1200 pixels contains 1,920,000 pixels, so we could say that the image has roughly 2 megapixels.
